TexAnns up by three at break

Tarleton is up 36-33 against UCO at the break.

Morgan Stehling and JoAnne Jones both lead the TexAnns with 10 points each.

UCO's Lizzie Brenner leads all scorers at the break with 11 points.

TexAnns up early on UCO

The TexAnns are up 24-22 on the Bronchos with 7:43 left to play before the break.

Sonya Sundberg handed in a lay-up and then sank a three-pointer to give the TexAnns a 22-18 lead. JoAnne Jones then hit a lay-up a few minutes later to give Tarleton a 24-20 lead.

UCO's Rose Anderson closed the gap on the other end of the court with a lay-up of her own.

Who's that girl?

Morgan Stehling got her first start as a TexAnn on Wednesday in Tarleton's first-round game against Central Oklahoma in the 2009 LSC Championships - and she did not disappoint.

The freshman out of Lorena scored the first eight points of the game for the TexAnns, knocking down a couple of three-pointers and taking a steal at mid-court all the way in for an easy lay-up.

More to come from Bartlesville...

Dingler talks: Feb. 11, 2009

Three in a row! We are peaking at a great time! Now we just have to keep working hard and continue to focus on the same goal in mind - the LSC Tournament! Getting this win helped us come one step closer to that goal.

Tonight everyone played really well! We had the bench step in and contribute a lot! It was a nice win at home. On Saturday (Valentines day) we travel to West Texas A&M, it's a hard place to play at.

Tonight I heard some news about Emily Brister suffering a knee injury tonight - if that is the case, I hope it's not season-injuring! I would hate that for her. From one senior to another senior, I hope she's ok.

Thanks for everyone who came tonight! There are just 2 more home games for me :( I'm going to miss the atmosphere! But hope to see some of you at West Texas!

*A little shout out to my parents- Happy Anniversary (Feb. 12th). It is their 27th wedding anniversary! Really something to celebrate! Love you guys!*

Till then Go TexAnns!

Big win... for now.

Just when you thought they were down...

The TexAnns picked up a huge win on Wednesday, defeating Midwestern State 62-57 in Wichita Falls.

The game opened up - well, let's just say not to script as the TexAnns would have wanted it to be. MSU took a 12-point, 17-5 lead in the first five minutes of the game. But the TexAnns didn't waiver and slowly pushed their way back into the game.

A 12-2 run from the TexAnns over the next six minutes pulled the TexAnns to within two points.

After heading into the locker room down 36-31, the TexAnns quickly saw deja vu from the first-half. The Mustangs opened the half scoring five points on their first to baskets to take a 10-point lead. But again, this team did not go away or play dead or wave the white flag. They stuck it out and came out on top.

Sonya Sundberg scored a season-high 19 points and Kelsey Benford grabbed 14 rebounds coming off the bench.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak in south division play as the TexAnns improved to 2-4 in the south.

But as D'Anna Dingler said in her post earlier... the team will not have long to think about and hold onto this win. The Mustangs will want nothing more than to return the favor on Saturday in Stephenville.

TexAnns defeat Cameron, 51-45

Wow! I said in my last post that "a win was a win" and that is exactly what it was today.

While it was not-at-all pretty - just 17-of-58 from the field - the TexAnns got it done, coming away with a 51-45 win over Cameron on Saturday.

D'Anna Dingler had 14 points in the game, but none of them mattered more than the final four as she went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe during the final 1:30 to give the TexAnns a lead they would never relinquish.

Coach Hearne noted after the game that "this game will help these players in the long run."

This may have been just the victory this team needed with Lone Star Conference South Division play beginning this Wednesday.

The TexAnns will host Texas A&M-Kingsville with a tip-off set for 6 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.

TexAnns start slow in Lawton, Okla.

The TexAnns are down 26-24 against Cameron at the half.

The TexAnns were down by as many as five points on two different occasions before Tori Skarke's three-pointer with 6:01 gave the TexAnns an 18-17 lead.

The Aggies scored the final four points of the half to take the lead as Shelby Adamson's jumper as time expired was too long.

TexAnns about to battle Aggies

About 23:00 until tip-off for the TexAnns in Lawton, Okla. The TexAnns will be going for their second straight win following a convincing win over Southwestern Oklahoma on Thursday in Weatherford, Okla.

While Thursday's game was not the prettiest of wins - first-half was awful, for both teams - it was still a win. And talking with some of the players, they believe that a road win like that - following an emotional loss (lost to Southeastern Oklahoma in final seconds) just two days before - can be the jump start they need. Especially with the conference opener just around the corner.

If the team that played (in the second-half) can play like that throughout the conference games, you will see a pretty good team for the rest of the season.

The question is - can they keep it up?

We'll see and i'll keep you posted.

TexAnns push past Bulldogs 70-40

The TexAnns defesne held the Bulldogs to their lowest point total of the season on their way to a convincing 70-40 win.

It was Tarleton's first win north of the Red River since Jan. 12 of last year.

The TexAnns will take on Cameron on Saturday in the team's final LSC crossover game of the season.

TexAnns up 29-15 over SWOSU at the break

The TexAnns scored just 29 points in the first half, but more importantly - held the Bulldogs to just 15 points as Tarleton takes the 14-point lead into the locker room after the first half.

Neither team lit up the scoreboard, but the TexAnns went on a 16-5 run in the final seven minutes and finished the half shooting 52% from the field.

The Tarleton defense held the Bulldogs to just 27% shooting.

TexAnns look to get back into win column this weekend

The Tarleton women's basketball team will travel to Southwestern Oklahoma on Thursday before heading to Cameron on Saturday.

The TexAnns dropped a heartbreaker at home on Tuesday and the team will look to bounce back in their final two Lone Star Conference crossover games before beginning conference action next week.
